Entertaiment – article
The word entertainment has become strongly associated with amusement and fun, but it also has many other meanings. For children, entertainment is important for development, often involving group play or the use of dolls and pet animals; for adults, it may involve performance (either at work or in social gatherings) and a range of spectator sports. Even activities such as hunting or archery, which were once a means of food provision or self-defense, now have a role in entertainment as spectator sports. And familiar stories, such as Scheherazade in the Persian professional storytelling tradition, have a capacity to inspire retellings in many different media – from music by composers like Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel to film adaptations and innovative video games.
