Entertaiment is an activity involving external stimulation, resulting in pleasure for some but not necessarily all of the participants. It is a form of communication that features external stimuli in an attempt to reach a generally passive audience and stimulates the brain to realease seratonin and dopamine in response. The word comes from the Medieval Latin intertenere, derived from tenere, meaning “hold inside.” It is interesting to note that many themes in entertainment are social backstabbing or murders because these are the points the mind was evolved to deeply react to in order to function within the world we live in.
